Registering your address — Anmeldung
Most international students staying in Berlin for a semester or a full degree program need to register their address (Anmeldung) at a Bürgeramt after moving in.
Short-stay exceptions exist: if you're already registered elsewhere in Germany, you generally don't need to register for a Berlin stay of up to six months; if you normally live abroad, you generally don't need to register for a stay of up to three months. Once you stay longer than that, registration becomes required within two weeks.
